J4K Arrive Alive Initiative kicks off at Anoka High School
Motor vehicle fatality is the leading cause of death to teenagers, accounting for nearly half of their deaths. In the United States alone, the fatal crash rate per mile for 16-19 year-olds is nearly 3 times the rate for drivers over age 20, with their risk the highest at ages 16-17.
Justice4Katie (J4K), kicked off their ARRIVE ALIVE initiative last month when they spoke to first semester driver’s education classes at Anoka High School. J4K founder, Karen, shared Katie’s story, the impact it still has on her family and friends eight years later and how dangerous driving distracted can be. The students were able to take a pledge to ARRIVE ALIVE, JUST DRIVE and received instructions how to put their phones in hands free mode and a J4K phone holder to remind them their phone should not be in their hand for any reason.
J4K is currently working on a video to distribute to multiple other high schools that have reached out interested in their program and will continue to present in person, too. Our work continues until our roads are safe for everyone.
